Dedicated surfer and art teacher Joan Bergmans is the current “Artist in Residence” at the beautiful Casa O’hana. During Casa 'Ohana’s ART week, Joan invites you to join her unique outdoor drawing workshop, ink illustration workshop and the famous, Art and Wine, painting workshop.
Designed for beginner skill levels, these workshops are held in a relaxed and happy atmosphere within the stunning natural landscape Cantabria has to offer. All participants will have the opportunity to sketch, draw, paint and learn how to use their different creative skills while having fun. You will also receive your own art journal to record your progress and to make notes. With Joan’s guidance, participants will learn how to draw through sketching exercises, illustrate by learning all basic techniques. This will be followed by a painting workshop to show off your inner Bob Ross. All participants receive one-on-one advice and helpful tips and tricks to take their drawing and painting skills to the next level.
Do you wish to surf as well? There’s plenty of time to enjoy the waves in between workshop and feel free to add some longboard coaching or board rental to your booking.
Workshop 1- Drawn by nature
A half day workshop event learning outdoor sketching of landscapes and outdoor botanical drawing. We will use the inspiring surroundings of Casa O’hana as our creative playground. Joan will teach you the basic foundation of sketching landscapes and natural elements like trees, mountains, fields etc. We will also zoom in on what nature has to offer by drawing one detailed insect, flower or plant.
Workshop 2 – Ink illustration
An afternoon workshop event learning all about ink illustrations. Ink is, by far, Joan’s favorite material to work with as it challenges the artist to set the right lines. In this workshop she will teach you the basic techniques using line art (hatching) and dot art (stippling). With ink illustration it is all about depth and shading to make the image work.
Workshop 3 – Art and Wine
Have you ever wanted to try abstract or realistic acrylic painting? In this afternoon workshop you will be gently guided through a project working with acrylics on canvas. The workshop will give you an introduction to color mixing composition and working with layers. You will have the opportunity to play and experiment and be inspired by your own creative potential. To keep creativity flowing there will be a great selection of wines, handpicked by the owner, to taste from during the workshop. These are on the house!
